Barbie is a Registered Nurse with many years of clinical and leadership experience working with moms, babies and children. She has a passion for travelling, helping nurses care for babies in developing countries, and practicing and studying yoga.
She began her yoga journey more that 15 years ago a few videos. She was intrigued so decided to take an intro course, and shortly after took a week long ashtanga intensive. She had never experienced anything like it and was hooked. She wanted to learn more about this practice that challenged her body and calmed her mind and decided to embark on a teacher training program. She studied Sivanada yoga for a month long intensive (while living in a tent on an ashram) in the Bahamas. She received her first 200hr teacher training certificate and will always credit this experience as one of the most valuable in her yoga journey as it changed her life and laid the foundation for her teaching philosophy and style. She continued my yoga journey with another 200 hr teacher training in the ashtanga/vinyasa lineage with Breathing Space and began teaching in the fall 2007.
She has had the opportunity to study and attend workshops with some amazing teachers including Tim Miller, Shiva Rea, Sean Corne, Rod Stryker, Mark and Joanne Darby, David Williams, Nancy Gilgoff and Manju Jois. She has studied and taught more than a 1000 hours, been a mentor for many yoga teachers in training, and have taught at various studious across the city. Her teaching style focuses on the breath and energy of the practice, in a supportive and challenging way. Her intention is to lead classes that will leave you feeling connected and centred. She believes Yoga should be the best part of your day/week!
