60 Hour Mentorship Program

The Halifax Yoga Mentorship Program is designed to offer teachers at the 200-hour level or beyond a powerful training experience and effective professional development.
This 60 hour program will help refine and expand your teaching , develop intuitive knowledge and skills and increase your confidence and ability as a teacher. You will have the opportunity to practice teach with your peers and receive open and honest feedback and direction. This program will help you stay both accountable and creative as you work towards your personal and professional growth and development while creating a stronger foundation!
Graduate of Halifax Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training or other approved 200 Hour Training Certification.
1. Assist in the transition from YTT to teaching in a studio.
2. Create your WHY – getting clarity around why you teach in order to help facilitate how you teach.
3. Prioritize your own health and wellbeing – crucial to being a successful teacher over the long term.
4. Review techniques: Alignment and biomechanics of various poses.
5. Discuss and advice for various class scenarios – in-class injuries, class behavior and communication, teacher/student relationships
6. Develop effective teaching techniques and communication, etc.
7. Create and develop your unique voice, and more!
Guideline of the Program
Group Setting In Studio Sessions (32 hours)
a) Personal Goal Setting and creating your ‘WHY’ – People lose their way when they forget their why! get clarity on why you teach (or want to teach), create your vision, set goals, and develop actionable steps.
b) The importance of ritual and personal practice – Develop and/or deepen your personal yoga practice. Integrate the 8 limbs of yoga in your daily life and delve deeper into yoga philosophy.
c) The Art & Science of Sequencing – The art of sequencing a class uses your skill and intuition, while the science provides guidelines on linking postures together in a comprehensive manner. Discussion and practicum will include vinyasa, yin and restorative sequences. As a teacher, combining the art and science of sequencing will increase your confidence and take your teaching to the next level.
d) The when and why to Adjust or Assist – Develop global vision, prioritization, and a trauma informed approach to adjusting and/or assisting students. Deepen your observational skills and hands on adjustment technique to ensure your assists are supportive, appropriate, feel-good and enhance your students’ experience on the mat. Various methods will be explored with ample opportunity for hands-on-practice. You will have opportunity to assist a class.
e) The Power of Sound – Discover the power of sound, known as Matrika Shakti, and its impact on spiritual healing and your students experience. Develop your voice, language and effective ways to communicate to students of all levels of asana practice. Learn how to use your words to inspire your students and connect with them in a meaningful way. f) Incorporating Yoga Philosophy and Theme Based classes – The physical benefits of a yoga practice are only a small portion of the entire spectrum of benefits gained from the practice of yoga. Yoga philosophy adds richness and depth to your teaching. Enhance your classes and learn to connect the philosophy to the asana practice with a relevance that resonates with and inspires your students.
Teaching Practicum (8 hours)
You will have ample opportunity to practice teach and incorporate the knowledge and skills you learned throughout the program during the weekend intensives. You will receive supportive and comprehensive feedback. Your mentorship journey will culminate with you teaching a complete class incorporating the art & science of sequencing, trauma informed approach, the power of sound, and yoga philosophy.
Personal Development (20)
Observe/Assist classes of your mentor (or classes recommended by your mentor) • Complete reflection assignments • Reading assignments, homework, and preparation for teaching practicum
TOTAL HOURS: 60 hours
Total minimum contact hours: 40 hours
Total Personal Development hours: 20 hours
To register for our Mentorship Program: Please complete and submit the registration form attached by email to firstname.lastname@example.org and submit your processing fee of $50 and deposit of $100.
Your application form will be reviewed immediately and you will be notified of approval within 3-5 business days. Please submit your application early to ensure a spot in the program.
About the Facilitator:
Barbie Leggett is a senior yoga teacher with more than 10 years of teaching experience. She has completed teacher trainings in Sivananda, Vinyasa/Ashtanga, and Yin Yoga and has participated as a mentor in the Halifax Yoga teacher training program (Baptiste Inspired). She has studied with Master teachers all over the world, including Manju Jois, David Williams, and Nancy Gilgoff in the Ashtanga tradition, and has attended multiple workshops and trainings in Ayurveda, Adjustment and Assisting clinics, Kundalini, Anatomy, Pelvic Floor, and Mindfulness meditation, to name a few.
Barbie is a Registered Nurse with >25 years of experience working with pre/postnatal women, babies, children and their families. She has clinical experience in labour and delivery, post-partum, pediatric and neonatal intensive care, and air medical transport. She has leadership experience in program development, education, facilitation, and management, and has completed various leadership programs, including a Master of Health Studies.
Barbie is Reiki Master as well and is skilled at reading the energy of a room and of her students. She has participated in trainings on trauma informed care and cultural sensitivity and incorporates these skills into her teaching style.
